What I am Thankful For

By Rob Edwards

I am thankful for staircases.  I now have 2!  I find they greatly facilitate movement between one floor and another for young and old alike, whether you have 2 legs or 4.  The newest:

Again, the boards will be replaced with something prettier once the flow of cementitious materials reaches a more sustainable level.

I am thankful for tiled terraces, of which I now have 3.  The 2 prettiest ones below:

Touch up work will be required on the walls and in those regrettable gutters.  But the views will remain the same.

I am thankful for plaster, which is currently being smeared over ever available and willing vertical surface.  One hesitates to sing the virtues of whiteness in the current sociopolitical climate, but in the context of inert mineral wall coverings, whiteness does have its advantages. . . .

And lastly, apart from my dedicated readership (which I understand is currently spiking into positive integers), I am MOST thankful for intimations of comfort and coziness.  Radiant heating coils are slithering through what will soon be the floor of the ground floor.  One day soon they will replace  hand-chopped wood as my primary source of warmth.

Happy Thanksgiving!

  1. Happy Thanksgiving to you! So great to see proper walls, tiles and stairs. It’s coming along amazingly well since we last saw it in June. Good luck to you over the long winter.
